Energy and Earth Day Activities

Fostering Innovation, Sustainability, and Community Service

In alignment with Bethlehem University’s mission to foster innovation, sustainability, and community service, the Department of Engineering, in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Power and Energy Society (IEEE PES) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), organized two days of activities April 23-24, 2025, celebrating Energy and Earth Day.

The events featured a scientific lecture, “Photovoltaic Systems for Electrical Power Generation,” delivered by Eng. Woroud Al-Natsheh from the Al Ahliya for Solar Energy. During the lecture, students and attendees explored the principles and applications of photovoltaic technology in renewable energy production—a field of growing global importance and a key pillar of Palestine’s sustainable future.

Adding a hands-on element to the activities, a group of Sustainable Energy Engineering students, members of Bethlehem University’s IEEE PES, showcased an innovative, simple, and efficient solar-powered mobile charging station. This project demonstrated how solar energy can be harnessed practically to meet every day needs. The events were attended by a large number of students, faculty, and visitors, reflecting the community’s enthusiasm for sustainable innovation and Bethlehem University’s leadership in this field.

These activities promoted both Bethlehem University’s bachelor’s degree program in Sustainable Energy Engineering, but also emphasize the university’s commitment to preparing students for active participation in the global engineering community through initiatives coordinated with IEEE, a world-leading professional organization.
