In celebration of World Bee Day, which is observed annually on May 20, 2025, the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) at Bethlehem University organized a special children’s activity on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The session focused on the important role bees play in our ecosystems. Children learned about the life cycle of bees, how they collect nectar, and how honey is produced. Dressed in bee costumes, they enthusiastically acted out the pollination process and completed a colorful maze to help a bee find its way home—combining learning and play in a joyful atmosphere.
The day also featured a collaboration with third- and fourth-year students from the Early Childhood Education program at Bethlehem University. As part of their Science and Math in Preschool course, the students created and facilitated eight engaging activity stations that introduced children to basic science and math concepts through interactive, hands-on experiences. This initiative served as a practical alternative to their midterm exam and gave the students valuable experience in educational outreach.
Through this event, the PIBS reaffirmed its commitment to promoting biodiversity, environmental education, and community engagement. By connecting children, future educators, and nature, the institute continues to inspire a deeper respect for our planet and empower the next generation of environmental stewards.
