Help the Teddy Bear

Nursing Students Build a “Skills City” for 40 Children

On Tuesday, October 13, twelve nursing students from Bethlehem University’s Tarek Juffali Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences arrived at Al-Amal Center and School in Al-Ubeidiya to build a city.

The Skills City had about 40 residents, children between the ages of 4 and 18 from the Center’s rehabilitation section. The students, all enrolled in Pediatric Nursing, ran it through the university’s Mobile Health Education Unit, with stations for self-care, color and shape matching, body awareness and movement, and sensory experiences. In an activity called “Help the Teddy Bear,” children found ways to express their emotions and needs.

Pediatric Nursing StudentsEvery activity was adapted to the children’s different abilities and individual needs, which meant the students planned around the child in front of them.

Ms. Amal Abu Nijmeh Fakhouri, Pediatric Nursing course instructor and coordinator, and Instructor Ramzi Al-Shaer supervised, with Dr. Hanan Hazboun and Ms. Bisan Mousa taking part. Ms. Salam Awwad, Dean of the Faculty, was there in support.
